Career is an interesting topic. It spans a much longer period than does education. Many individuals work for 30-40 years and in this period they typically work in multiple companies in different roles and may even have multiple careers at the same time.
The typical question that comes to mind is the type of career that is best suited for me. This is most relevant at the start of one’s career, but could be equally relevant mid-career. I know many who have changed career paths after spending 10+ years in the first one they picked after school.
Education and Career
The natural follow up to this question is whether your education relates to your career. There are many professions that require education related to that profession, like Medicine and Law. Also, many people work is fields that are unrelated to what they studied.
Autonomy (Independent vs Dependent)
Then you can look at the amount of autonomy one has in their career. Most people work for others, in salaried positions. We can consider this “dependent” work. Others, work independently as freelancers.
Government vs Private Sector
Careers can also be viewed from the lens of the establishment you work for. Broadly, this can be classified as Government vs Private sector. In many countries landing a Government job is a career goal because of the work life balance and pension this offers.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Then, there is the urge to start your own company, become an entrepreneur. Does the vedic chart support this goal. It is tough one, but something that many professionals in Silicon Valley consider at some point in their career.
Finally, what ever path one picks, there is the question of whether one will be successful in that path – climb up the ranks!
Career Success
These are just a few of the thoughts that cross our minds when we think of our career. This area plays such an important role in many people’s life, that they spend most of their time thinking about this. The other one of equal interest is probably around relationships!
