Conjunction – Sun and Mars
It is important to understand how the combinations of grahas affect a chart. To exemplify the analysis, we look at combinations where both grahas are either in their own sign or in their sign of exaltation. We look at the conjunction of Sun and Mars here. There are only six such combinations if you ignore Rahu and Ketu. These are
- Sun and Mars – in Aries
- Moon and Venus – in Taurus
- Jupiter and Moon – in Cancer
- Saturn and Venus – in Libra
- Saturn and Mars – in Capricorn
- Jupiter and Venus – in Pisces
In Aries, Sun is in its sign of exaltation and Mars is in its own sign. This gives both grahas primary strength. Charts with this combination can help exemplify the results of such a combination.
According to Saravali and other astrology works, the conjunction of Sun and Mars makes the native strong, valorous, fierce, and splendorous. The texts also state that such natives are dull-witted, sinful, a liar, and are disposed to kill and torture.
It is not surprising to see such attributes. Both Sun and Mars are fiery grahas and symbolize action. Sun gives power while Mars gives strength. The combination is synergetic and can make the native powerful. With power comes the possibility of committing evil acts. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!
Adolf Hitler
Hilter’s chart has Sun and Mars in his seventh house. The combination is also with his lagnesh (Venus) and his ninth lord (Mercury). The characteristics mentioned in Saravali rings very true in Hilter’s case. His chart is a great example for this combination.
Catherine the Great
Catherine the Great’s chart also has this combination. In her case, the ascendant lord aspects the combination and Mars is the tenth lord of career. She is also a good example for this conjunction.
