Vimsopaka Bala

Vimsopaka bala

Often in vedic astrology people confuse strength and auspiciousness. A graha in its state of exaltation, for example, is strong. But, is it strong for good results or bad results. The answer lies in the Vimsopaka bala.

The basic idea comes from the fact that we are happiest when we are in our natural surroundings with close friends and family. Grahas, likewise, are happiest in their own house. They are happy in their friend’s house. Finally, they are least happy in their enemy’s house. When a graha is happy it produces auspicious results. When the graha is unhappy it produces inauspicious results.

An important point is that exaltation in vargas do not factor into this metric. So, if you have Mars in Capricorn in all the vargas, it would score lower in Vimsopaka bala because Mars considers Saturn neutral. This allows Mars to take on only two values – 15, if Saturn is a temporal friend, or 7 if Saturn is a temporal enemy.

Factors used in the calculation

Vimsopaka bala uses a weighted function involving two factors, vargas and panchadha sambhanda. The result is a score out of 20 indicating the auspiciousness of the graha.

First factor – Vargas

There are four possible scores, for each graha, based on the number of vargas considered. The logic is to look at the support the graha gets in the key vargas in his/her life. In the vedic period, the life of a person was defined by the ability of the person (D1), wealth (D2), support from siblings (D3), support from the spouse (D9), support from parents (D12), and past evils (D30). These constitute shad varga. The next important factor was children, which covers Sapta varga. The next three were career, conveyances, and overall happiness, which covers Dasa varga.

  1. Shad varga (6 vargas) – D1, D2, D3, D9, D12, D30
  2. Sapta varga (7 vargas) – adds D7
  3. Dasa varga (10 vargas) – adds D10, D16, D60
  4. Shodasa varga (16 vargas) – adds D4, D20, D24, D27, D40, D45
Second factor – Panchadha Sambhanda

The second factor is the state of happiness of the graha in each of the vargas. The graha gets the following points in each varga. Remember, the panchadha sambhanda is determined using only the D1 chart. The example, given later, will make this point clear.

  1. Own house – 20 points
  2. Great friend’s house – 18 points
  3. Friend’s house – 15 points
  4. Neutral graha’s house – 10 points
  5. Enemy’s house – 7 points
  6. Great enemy’s house – 5 points
Weightage

The weights assigned indicate the importance of each varga in the group of vargas selected. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) gives the following weightage for each of four Vimsopaka bala calculations.

VargaShadSaptaDasaShodasa
Rasi (D1)6533.5
Hora (D2)221.51
Drekkana (D3)431.51
Navamsa (D9)52.51.53
Dwadasamsa (D12)24.51.50.5
Trimsamsa (D30)121.51
Saptamsa (D7)11.50.5
Dasamsa (D10)1.50.5

Bhamsa (D27)0.5
Turyamsa (D4)0.5
Khavedamsa (D40)0.5
Akshavedamsa (D45)0.5
Total20202020

If you look at the weights for Shad varga, self (D1) contributes 6/20 or 30% towards the score. The next important factor is the spouse – 5/20 or 25%. Siblings get the next highest weight… In my opinion, you can create your own varga group, based on the factors that are important in your life, and assign appropriate weights. You can then create your own Vimsopala score. For today’s society, I would consider D10 (career) and D24 (education) important contributors to one’s happiness and weight them higher.

Result of the calculation

The result is broken down below based on the actual score. The lowest possible score is 5 and the highest is 20. Therefore, 16 and above is very good, and less than 10 is bad. The rest are average. The range is 5-15. BPHS gives 8 grades for this range. The vimsopaka points are my values to cover the possible range.

GradeVimsopaka pointsBeneficial effects
Atipoorna18 to 20Exceptional
Poorna16 to 18Very Good
Atimadhya14 to 16Above average
Madhya12 to 14Average
Swalpa10 to 12Minimal
Atiswalpa8 to 10Non-existant
Heena6 to 8Destructive

An important point is that exaltation in vargas do not factor into this metric. So, if you have Mars in Capricorn in all the vargas, it would score lower in Vimsopaka bala because Mars considers Saturn neutral. This allows Mars to take on only two values – 15, if Saturn is a temporal friend, or 7 if Saturn is a temporal enemy.

Kwame Nkrumah vedic chart

Kwame Nkrumah vedic chart

Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 18th 1909 at 12:00 noon in Axim Ghana. Below is Kwame Nkrumah vedic chart.

Strength of the Lagna

The ascendant is the most important point in vedic astrology. Famous people typically have a strong ascendant. In Kwame Nkrumah vedic chart the ascendant is Sagittarius. The lord, Jupiter is in the 10th house of career and its lord, Mercury, is in its own house. This forms Parvata yoga. Mercury also forms Bhadra mahapurusha yoga adding strength to Jupiter.

Unique 4/10 axis

Kwame Nkrumah’s chart has five grahas in the 4/10 axis. These grahas contribute to a number of yogas in his chart. The grahas are Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Sun. Mercury and Sun form budha aditya yoga. The grahas lord houses 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10, and 12. Hence they form a whole slew of dharma karmadhipati yogas including the most powerful of them – 9,10 and 4,5 combinations. In addition, these also form dhana yoga (1,2), (2,5), and (2,9) combinations. He also has Vasumati yoga – another indicator of wealth.

Mercury is the strongest graha in this chart. That shows in his educational achievements. In the Mercury maha dasha, Nkrumah lead Ghana to independence. He was their first Prime Minister and he was in power through most of his Mercury maha dasha.

Chandra Lagna vs Janma Lagna

Kwame Nkrumah’s chandra lagna is also strong. The Moon is in Libra conjunct its lord, Venus. This forms a Malayva mahapurusha yoga. The prominent axis, however, forms in the 6/12 axis from the Moon. This shows a big difference between the focus from the janma lagna and the chandra lagna. The janma lagna indicates reality. From this perspective, the focus is education, property, vehicles, and career. The chandra lagna represents his mind. From this, the focus is enemies, illness, debts, loss, confinement, and immigration.

Kwame was overthrown in 1966 and he lived in exile until his death, never returning to his homeland. In exile, he lived the life of the rich and famous in Guinea, as the honorary co-president. However, he lived in constant fear of abduction and assassination. This shows the dichotomy between the two lagnas.

Panchadha Sambhanda

Panchadha Sambhanda or compound relationship is a key tenet in vedic astrology. This principle grades the relationship between two grahas on a five-point scale. The values in the scale are –

  1. Extreme Friendship
  2. Friendship
  3. Neutral
  4. Enmity
  5. Extreme Enmity

What does it determine?

In vedic astrology there are three factors in evaluating the effect of a graha. The first is its strength. This is second is its auspiciousness. The last is its activation. A graha can be strong or weak, give good or bad results, and be activated or dormant. Therefore, for positive results, the graha should be strong, good, and active. Panchadha sambhanda helps determine auspiciousness. It is the key component of the Vimshopaka Bala calculation.

What is the rationale?

The rationale is simple. You tend to do good things when you are happy and you are most happy when you are in comfortable surroundings. Grahas in all charts are in houses. The house can be your own house, a friend’s house, a neutral place, or an enemy’s house. A graha in its own house is the most auspicious. The next best placement is being in one’s best friend’s house. The worst placement is being in one’s enemy’s house. The panchadha sambhanda scale provides two levels for friends and enemies each to provide more granularity.

How is it determined?

There are two factors involved in the process. Hence the word “compound”. The first is natural or naisargika relationship. The second is temporal or tatkalika relationship. Natural relationship is the same for all charts. For example, Sun is friendly with Moon, is enemies with Saturn, and is neutral towards Mercury. Temporal friendship changes in each natal chart. In temporal friendship the grahas in the neighboring houses (2,3,4,12,11,10) are friendly and the rest are enemies. So, natural has three levels and temporal has 2 levels. When you combine the two you get 6 combinations and 5 outcomes.

Example Chart – Bill Gates

Now let us look at Sun’s relationship with the other grahas. We exclude Rahu and Ketu for this analysis.

Therefore, in Bill Gates’ natal chart, Sun is extremely friendly with Jupiter and Mars. On the other hand, Sun forms extreme enmity with Venus and Saturn. Mercury is a friend and Moon is neutral.

So, when Sun is in its own sign (Leo) or in Mars’ signs (Aries and Scorpio) or in Jupiter’s signs (Sagittarius and Pisces), in any of the divisional charts, it is very happy and produces very auspicious results.

Agatha Christie Vedic Chart

Agatha Christie vedic chart

Agatha Christie was born on September 15th 1890 at 14:14 in Torquay, UK. Below is Agatha Christie vedic chart.

Backdrop of the chart

The Rasis and Nakshatras provide the backdrop of a chart. In Agatha Christie’ chart the ascendant is in Sagittarius, a fire sign, with Mars, an energetic graha. This gives Agatha a desire to aim high and the energy to pursue her goals. The Moon and Sun are in Virgo, which indicates a sense of naivety. Her key nakshatras are Moola (ascendant), Hasta (Moon), and Uttaraphalguni (Sun). Moola indicates struggles. The Moon and Sun are in their own nakshatras indicating contentment. Hasta’s symbol is hands and she used her hands to pen her mystery novels.

Intelligence

Agatha Christie’s intelligence is clearly visible in the chart. Mercury is in the 10th house in its own sign. This forms Bhadra Mahapurusha yoga. Mercury also forms Budha-Aditya yoga with the Sun. Both these yogas repeat from the chandra lagna and the surya lagna. The 10th house is a focal point in her chart. Therefore, she uses her intelligence in her career.

Author

The 3rd house is important for writers. At first glance, the 3rd house does not stand out in this chart. Agatha Christie’s chart is a good example of the importance of dashas in one’s career. She ran Jupiter and Saturn from 1922 to 1957 (31 to 66 years). Her career starts in all earnest in 1922. Jupiter is her lagnesh and is in the 2nd house. Saturn is the lord of the 2nd house. This brings Saturn’s influence in the Jupiter mahadasha. Saturn rules her 2nd and 3rd houses of speech and writing. The next dasha is that of Saturn. Again, this brings the 2nd and 3rd houses into focus. Saturn also aspects the 3rd house adding strength to that house.

Fame

Agatha Christie has one of the most powerful raja yogas – lord of the 9th and 10th house being together. In her case Sun and Mercury, the lords of the 9th and 10th houses respectively are together in the 10th house of career. Mercury, as already mentioned, also forms Bhadra Mahapurusha yoga and Bhudha-Aditya yogas. The 10th house is aspected by Jupiter and does not have any malefic influences. Her D10 chart is also very powerful with two pancha mahapurusha yogas. In 1971, Christie was appointed Dame Commander of the British Empire, the equivalent of knighthood, for her services to literature. This aptly occurred in her Mercury/Jupiter period.

Agatha Christie vedic chart is a good example of the power of yogas, the strength of divisional charts, and the importance of dashas.

Rahu in Ardra Nakshatra

Rahu in Ardra Nakshatra

The tear drop is the symbol of Ardra nakshatra. Rudra, the destructive form of Shiva, is the diety of the nakshatra. As per the vimshottari dasha system, Rahu rules over Ardra. Therefore, when Rahu is in Ardra nakshatra it symbolizes destruction. The destruction, in turn, leads to sorrow as represented by the tear drop.

In this blog, we look at the periods in history when Rahu is in Ardra nakshatra. This happens about every 18.5 years. Rahu stays in Ardra for about 8 months.

2020 – Coronavirus Spread

Rahu is in Ardra from September 12th, 2019 to May 19th, 2020. This is the current period of the devastating Coronavirus spread.

2001 – 9/11 Attack on Twin Towers in New York

Rahu is in Ardra from February 4th, 2001 to October 13th, 2001. The September 11th attack on the twin towers in New York falls in this period. On September 11th, 2001 in addition to Rahu in Ardra, Ketu is in Moola and Mars is in Sagittarius influencing Rahu and Ketu.

September 11th, 2001

1982 – HIV AIDS Epidemic

Rahu is in Ardra from August 1st, 1982 to March 8th, 1983. The CDC first uses the term AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) on September 24th, 1982.

1963 – JFK Assassination and Vietnam War

Rahu is in Ardra from November 24th, 1963 to August 1st, 1964. President John F Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. Other events during this time are the Rubella epidemic and the Vietnam War.

November 22nd, 1963 JFK Assassination

1945 – World War II – Atomic Bomb

Rahu is in Ardra from April 19th, 1945 to December 25th, 1945. Hitler commits suicide on April 30th, 1945. Germany surrenders on May 7th, 1945. Atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and 9th, 1945. World War II ends September 2nd, 1945.

1926 – Great Mississippi Flood

Rahu is in Ardra from September 13th, 1926 to May 21st, 1927. The great Mississippi flood affects 700,000 people. The Gulang earthquake on May 21st, 1927 in China kills 40,000 people.

1908 – Tunguska Event

Rahu is in Ardra from February 2nd, 1908 to October 14th, 1908. On June 30th, 1908 a meteor strikes the Earth and flattens about 800 sq. miles. The impact happened in a remote part of Siberia and therefore we were lucky. Had it happened four hours later, it would have wiped out St. Petersburg and its population of 150,000 at that time.

All grahas in one sign

All grahas in one sign

On December 27th 2019, six grahas were in Sagittarius and Rahu was in Gemini. This made me curious about the rarity of all grahas in one sign.

In vedic astrology Rahu and Ketu cannot be in one sign. Therefore, the maximum conjunction we can have is of eight grahas in one sign. If Rahu is part of the conjunction then Ketu would be on the opposite sign. Likewise, if Ketu is part of the conjunction then Rahu would be on the opposite side.

So, how rare is it to have eight grahas (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Rahu/Ketu) in one sign? Turns out this is very rare. We have had only two such occurrences in the last 2,000 years (since 1 AD). The first one was on June 1st 531 AD and the second one was more recent, on February 4th 1962.

February 4th 1962

Luckily nothing catastrophic happened on February 4th, 1962 or a couple of weeks before or after it. Later in the year, we had the Cuban missile crisis, which many believe brought the world to the brink of a nuclear war. I did not find much information about world events in 531 AD.

If we look at just all the visible grahas in one sign, there were four more occurrences in the last 2,000 years. This means that Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn were in one sign.

  • July 2nd, 710
  • August 16th, 1007
  • September 14th, 1186
  • April 3rd, 1821

Looking into the next 1,000 years, we have only one occurrence in 2,516 – November 26th, 2516. On this date, the seven visible grahas are in Scorpio, but Rahu and Ketu are not part of this conjunction.

In conclusion, all grahas in one sign is extremely rare. Also, there is no indication that this pattern foretells disaster.

Coronavirus – The End

The Coronavirus – The End blog is the last in the Coronavirus series. The previous blogs cover the start and spread of the virus. I will predict with United States as the reference because we have a generally accepted vedic chart for United States.

United States Chart – July 4th 1776, 18:30, Philadelphia, PA

The Gemini-Sagittarius axis is very important in the US chart. The ascendant is in Sagittarius and the lord of the ascendant (Jupiter) is in Gemini. Further, Gemini has four grahas making it a point of focus in the chart. This is one of the reasons why Rahu-Ketu in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis impacts the US more than it impacts other countries.

US is currently in its Rahu mahadasha. This amplifies the effects of Rahu’s transits.

Finally, Capricorn and Gemini are the maraka (death inflicting) houses in the chart. The current focus as explained in the “Coronavirus – The Spread” blog is in these two signs.

Indicators for the end of Coronavirus

The solution lies in three factors. The first involves Rahu. A strong Rahu is causing the current problem. The solution would be when Rahu loses its strength. The second is an active Capricorn sign. As the energy in Capricorn dissipates so will the current crisis. Lastly, the focus on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis. The coronavirus crisis will end when the focus moves away from the Gemini-Sagittarius axis.

Key dates to look forward to in the next 6 months

Strong Rahu: Rahu moves out of Ardra nakshatra on May 19th 2020. Ardra is Rahu’s own sign and therefore Rahu gains strength in Ardra. Ardra is also the sign of destruction. So, May 19th 2020 will help reduce the strength of Rahu.

Capricorn focus: In the current (Apr 13th 2020) transit, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are in Capricorn. This increases the strength of this sign. Capricorn is associated with contraction and in the US chart it is a maraka house. Mars moves out of Capricorn on May 4th 2020 and Jupiter moves out of Capricorn on June 30th 2020. Saturn will remain in Capricorn for two more years. So, May 4th followed by June 30th reduce the focus on Capricorn.

Gemini-Sagittarius axis: On September 23rd 2020 Rahu moves from Gemini to Taurus. This ends the affliction of Rahu on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis.

Summary

The situation starts returning to normal in May – May 4th and May 19th, specifically. I would expect countries and parts of the US to lift lockdowns progressively each week in May. Lockdowns throughout the world are lifted by June 30th 2020. Finally, the coronavirus pandemic itself ends on September 23rd 2020.

There are some concerns whether the pandemic will have a second outbreak in Fall of 2020. I don’t see any signs for that.

There is also concern about a stellium and eclipse forming on December 13th 2020. There is a solar eclipse and six grahas are in the Taurus-Scorpio axis. Rahu is in Taurus and 5 grahas (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Ketu) are in Scorpio. Saturn and Jupiter are in a planetary war as well in Capricorn.

Solar eclipses occur 2-3 times a year. By definition Rahu, Ketu, Sun and Moon are in one axis. That makes 4 grahas in one axis. Sun being with Mercury and Venus is the most common three-graha conjunction. The configuration on December 13th combines these two common occurrences and hence is not something to worry about.

Coronavirus – The Spread

Coronavirus - The Spread

The Coronavirus – The Beginning blog indicates the astrological pattern at the root of the start of this pandemic. The key factors are Rahu and Ardra, a solar eclipse, seven grahas in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, a weak Jupiter, and finally all malefics aspecting Rahu. Essentially, the focus is all on Rahu and how strong Rahu is. The Coronavirus – The Spread analyzes the events following the solar eclipse that lead to the spread of the virus throughout the world.

January 2020

Thailand reports its first case on January 13th. This is the first case outside China. Japan reports its first case on January 16th. From January 16th through January 31st, many countries, including United States, Russia, UK, France, Italy, Germany, India, and Australia report their first cases.

Astrologically, the first significant event is Ketu moving into Moola nakshatra. This happens on January 16th 2020. Moola’s diety is Niritti, the goddess of destruction. Ketu is in its own nakshatra as per the Vimshottari dasha sequence. This makes Rahu and Ketu powerful because they are both in their own nakshatras. The combination of Ardra (Rahu) and Moola (Ketu) is highly destructive.

A strong Rahu and Ketu help spread the virus around the world. Gemini is an air sign and the virus spreads through air. Sagittarius is a fire sign and the symptoms of the virus is high fever. Rahu, the head of the snake, determines the direction of spread. Gemini represents West and therefore, the virus spreads west affecting the western world.

The next significant event is Saturn’s transit into Capricorn on January 24th. Capricorn and Saturn represent contraction. On January 24th China locks down Wuhan province. Also, Saturn moves into the 8th house from Rahu. The eight house represents death.

Sun does move to Capricorn in January. However, Sun is not at home in Saturn’s sign and therefore it is weak through its transits of Capricorn and Aquarius.

February 2020

The only thing worse than the Rahu-Ketu tandem is adding Mars to the mix. Mars signifies violence and Mars moves into Sagittarius on February 8th 2020. The coronavirus death toll exceeds that of the SARS epidemic of 2002-3 on February 9th 2020.

The death toll steadily climbs. On February 11th the death toll crosses 1,000. February 19th sees the death toll crosses 2,000. On March 1st the death toll crosses 3,000.

March 2020

The trifecta of Rahu, Ketu, Mars cause havoc from February 8th to March 21st. In this time, the WHO declares coronavirus as a pandemic. The worldwide death toll on March 21st reaches 13,000. States and countries issue lockdowns. Finally, the DOW falls 9,000 points or 30% from ~29,000 on February 10th to ~20,000 on March 21st. The coronavirus spread gains full speed during this period.

Mars transits into Capricorn on March 22nd 2020. Jupiter follows by transiting into Capricorn on Mar 30th 2020. These transits create a new focus in the chart competing for attention with the Rahu-Ketu axis. Capricorn is very strong with Mars in its sign of exaltation, Saturn in its own sign, and Jupiter in its state of debilitation. Jupiter’s debilitation is, however, canceled by Mars and Saturn causing neecha-bhanga raja yoga for Jupiter.

On March 27th, Venus also gains strength by moving into Taurus, its own sign. Therefore, after the Mars transit on March 22nd, Mars, Saturn, and Venus have primary strength and Jupiter is strengthed by neecha-bhanga raja yoga.

At the time of this blog (April 12th 2020), the stock market has gained 40% from its March 21st lows and stands at ~24,000. However, the worldwide death count has grown exponentially from 13,000 on March 21st to a staggering 110,000 deaths worldwide on April 12th. Also, the entire world is under lockdown, increasing the number of unemployment claims.

The Coronavirus – The Spread blog focuses on the events that lead up to today. I will conclude this series with my next blog on the end game.

Coronavirus – The End

Coronavirus – 1945 WWII

Coronavirus - 1945 WWII

The astrological pattern on December 27th 2019 marks the start of the current coronavirus crisis as outlined in the Coronavirus – The Beginning blog. We find a similar pattern twice in the last 120 years. The first is in 1908. The Coronavirus – 1908 Tunguska blog focuses on this event. The second occurred on January 13th 1945. This blog, Coronavirus – 1945 WWII, focuses on this date.

January 13th 1945
December 27th 2019

What happened in January 1945 and 1945 in general?

Late December 1944 to January 1945 there were battles in every part of the world. In Europe, the Battle of the Bulge happened in this time frame. It is the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by the United States. It is also the 3rd deadliest campaign in American history with an estimated 19,000 Americans dying in one month. This was followed by the Battle of Berlin between April and May 1945. Russians and Germans lost close to 100,000 lives each in this battle. Finally, leading up to the surrendering of Germany in May 1945.

In the Pacific, the Philippines campaign, including the Battle of Luzon and the Battle of Manila saw 150,000 Filipinos dying. The Japanese lost 200,000 people and the Americans about 10,000 in these battles.

1945 saw the maximum casualties for Americans and Japanese in World War II. Famous battles like the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Battle of Okinawa were fought during this time frame. These lead up to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 killing more than 200,000 Japanese.

World War II ended in 1945. However, many lives were lost in 1945 and the world dynamics were changed forever.

Striking similarities between the charts

  • Both charts show Rahu in Gemini. In 2019, Rahu is already in Ardra while in 1945 Rahu enters Ardra mid April.
  • Both charts have a solar eclipse when the luminaries – Sun and Moon – are weakest.
  • In both charts, all the malefics aspect Rahu. Saturn is conjunct Rahu and Mars and Sun are in direct opposition in the 1945 chart. In 2019, Mars is not in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, although it still aspects Rahu.
  • In 1945 Jupiter forms as parivartana yoga with Mercury. If you swap Jupiter and Mercury’s positions, the charts become even more similar with Jupiter in Sagittarius in both charts. In both charts Jupiter is weak and is unable to reduce the strength of the malefics in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis.

It is unfortunate Coronavirus – 1945 WWII shows that the chart pattern in 2019 (into 2020) resembles 1945 the closest. However, we can look at the events of 1945 to predict when we can come out of this epidemic.

May 7th 1945 Germany surrenders marking the end of the war in Europe. Japan surrenders on September 2nd 1945 marking the end of World War II. We can, therefore, hope to have some relief in May of 2020 with an end in September 2020. I will provide more details about 2020 in the next few blogs.

Coronavirus – The Spread

Coronavirus – The End

Coronavirus – 1908 Tunguska

Coronavirus 1980 Tunguska

The coronavirus beginning is clearly attributable to the unique astrological pattern on December 27th 2019. The key to this pattern is Rahu in Gemini, an eclipse, and seven grahas in one axis. This occurred only twice in the last 120 years. June 16th 1908 is one of the two dates. The Coronavirus – Tunguska blog compares the chart pattern on this date to the one on December 27th 1019.

June 16th 1908 – Tunguska Event
December 27th 2019

What happened in June of 1908?

On June 30th 1908 a large meteor exploded in the Seberian region of Russia. The explosion was so big that it flattened about 800 sq. miles of forest land. Estimates indicate that the rarity of such an event is 1 in 100 to 1000 years. The explosion had the potential of wiping out a large metropolitan city. Researchers indicate that if the event occurred 4 hours later it would have destroyed the city of St. Petersburg and its 150,000 people at that time.

Similarities between the charts

There are three similarities between the charts in 1908 and 2019. Firstly, Rahu is in Gemini in both cases. Secondly, there is in eclipse in both charts. Finally, there are seven grahas in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis. This makes this chart a valid research subject for the current coronavirus pandemic.

What are the differences?

The main difference is that the Tunsguska event was in a remote forest area in Siberia. The Tunguska event resulted in only a few deaths. So, why did we get lucky?

  • The 1908 chart is that of a lunar eclipse. In a lunar eclipse there is a full Moon. This makes the luminary strong as opposed to the new moon in a solar eclipse.
  • Jupiter, the great benefic, is not affected by the seven grahas in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis. In fact Jupiter is exalted in this chart. This is a main reason for the impact missing a populated area.
  • Saturn, a key malefic, does not aspect Rahu and is also not in the Gemini-Sagittarius axis.
  • Ardra and Moola are destructive nakshatras. In 1908 only Rahu is in Ardra. In 2019, Rahu is in Ardra and Sun, Jupiter, and Mercury are in Moola.

These reasons make the chart in 1908 less potent. The world was saved because of the beneficial influence of Jupiter.
