It is important to understand how the combinations of grahas affect a chart. To exemplify the analysis, we look at combinations where both grahas are either in their own sign or in their sign of exaltation. We look at the conjunction of Jupiter and Venus here. There are only six such combinations if you ignore Rahu and Ketu. These are

• Sun and Mars – in Aries
• Moon and Venus – in Taurus
• Jupiter and Moon – in Cancer
• Saturn and Venus – in Libra
• Saturn and Mars – in Capricorn
• Jupiter and Venus – in Pisces

In Pisces, Venus is in its sign of exaltation and Jupiter is in its own sign. This gives both grahas primary strength. Charts with this combination can help exemplify the results of such a combination.

According to Saravali, a native with conjunction of Jupiter and Venus in their chart lives by education and arguments (debators), follows a highly virtuous path, and has accurate conception of things (knows right from wrong). The native is learned in many branches and loves to argue with fellow scholars.

Jupiter and Venus are the advisers in the planetary cabinet. Therefore, it makes sense that the attributes are around education, scholarly discussions, and the path of righteousness.

James Watson

James Watson is well known as part of the “Watson and Crick” duo who proposed DNA’s double helix structure. He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962, “for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material”.

The fact that his life is always around education is obvious. His Wikipedia page lists him receiving degrees (including honorary) from 20+ Universities. The conjunction of Jupiter and Venus is in the fourth house with the first lord (Jupiter) and the ninth lord (Sun). As a scholar, he had disagreements with many colleagues and voiced many controversial opinions.

According to Saravali, a native with conjunction of Saturn and Venus in their chart is an expert in breaking wood, a barber, sculptor, or boxer. The native is intent on wandering and is the owner of quadrupeds. What does this mean in today’s terms? Breaking wood and boxer can be interpreted as strength and involvement in contact sports. Sculptor and barber could be interpreted as a creative energy, but one that requires patience and long hours. Owner of quadrupeds, would mean owning many vehicles today. Finally, wanderings would indicate someone who moves around quite a lot.

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is among and greatest and most talented quarterbacks in American Football. He has physical strength and is a talented sportsman in a contact sport. He was born in California, became famous playing for Green Bay Packers in Wisconsin, and now plays for the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers owns or has owned homes in California, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Texas, and Tennessee. He also travels to Peru and other places in search of alternative medicines.

Here is Vivek Ramaswamy’s vedic chart analysis. Vivek Ramaswamy was born on August 9th, 1985 at 18:51 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Yogas indicate the opportunities in life. The strength of the lagna indicates the individual’s potential to use these opportunities. Yogas that involve the lagna or the lagna lord bring fame to the individual.

General Characteristics

Vivek has a Sagittarius lagna. Sagittarians aim high and are very competitive. They actively win over their enemies. They are intellectual and can have multiple careers. Sagittarians are spiritual and can derive happiness from their spiritual pursuits. Sagittarians are generally lucky. Vivek’s Moon is in Taurus. The Moon represents the mind. Taurians are physically and mentally strong. They are materialistic. They have a sharp intellect, are good writers, and have a strong interest in food. Most of these seem to be true in the case of Vivek!

Yoga vichara

The 2-8 axis is the source of all his major yogas. He has a number of dharma-karmadhipati, or power yogas including the strongest among them – 9th lord (Su) and 10th lord (Me) together in the 8th house. Su and Me also form a budha-aditya yoga signifying intelligence. The other dharma-karmadipati yogas involve (1,5 – Ju, Ma), (1,9 – Ju, Su), (1,10 – Ju, Me), (4,5 – Ju, Ma), (4,9 – Ju, Su), (5,10 – Ma, Me), (5,7 – Ma, Me), and (7,9 – Me, Su). In addition, this axis also brings together the lord of the trikona houses (1,5,9) – Ju, Ma, and Su, making him a very lucky person.

The main yogas involve the 8th house. Thereby indicating some unexpected results in his case. His rise to fame within the Republican party is anything but usual.

Lagna vichara

Basic bhava vichara of the house house shows that the first lord, Ju, is in a positive house (2nd house). The first house has aspects from a very strong (exalted) Saturn and Venus – a strong natural malefic and a natural benefic in its friend’s sign. The first lord has aspects from two natural malefics, Mars and Sun. The net effect shows a more malefic influence from the bhava vichara analysis of the first house.

Jupiter, the lagna lord, is in its sign of debilitation and is retrograde. The debilitation does not have cancellation from a neecha bhanga principle, but the retrograde nature adds strength helping even out the debilitation of Jupiter. Jupiter is yogic because it forms multiple yogas with Sun, Mercury, and Mars. Also, Jupiter’s rasi and nakshatra lords are both in their signs of exaltation providing strength to Jupiter. All in all, Jupiter has strengths that can over come its debilitation. However, Jupiter is not as strong as one would like for a probable future President of the USA.

Current Period

Vivek, just started his Jupiter mahadasha in March of 2022. Jupiter is the lagna lord and is yogic, being part of many yogas. Barak Obama had a similar Jupiter – debilitated and retrograde in Capricorn – and became the President during his Jupiter mahadasha. However, the Jupiter in Obama’s chart also has neecha bhanga and dig bala, being in the first house. Obama’s Jupiter is also not aspected by a debilitated Mars. Comparatively, Vivek’s Jupiter is a lot weaker.

During the 2024 election, Vivek runs Jupiter/Saturn. Saturn is indeed very strong in his chart. The strength of his Rahu dasha from 2004 to 2022 is largely due to Saturn. He could have a good shot at a VP ticket.

Pulippani sloka 10 covers the houses Rahu and Ketu own and the signs in which they achieve exaltation and debilitation.

For both Rahu and Ketu, Aquarius is their own sign. Rahu’s sign of exaltation is Scorpio and Ketu’s sign of exaltation is Cancer. Rahu and Ketu have their sign of debilitation in Taurus. Leo is inimical to both Rahu and Ketu and the other signs are friendly. Rahu and Ketu aspect the third and eleventh houses.

There is no consensus on the signs Rahu and Ketu own or the signs in which they are achieve exaltation or debilitation. The signs given by Pulippani are not corroborated by anyone else. In general, you evaluate the strength of Rahu and Ketu using the lord of the sign they are in, their nakshatra lords, and grahas that are conjunt or aspecting them. This gives for many ways to interpret the results of Rahu and Ketu, thus making it more complex.

One big difference is Pulippani’s statement that Rahu is exalted in Scorpio. Parashara says Rahu is debilitated in Scorpio. Therefore, we can use Rahu in Scorpio as a case study to see which one is true.

Example charts

We look at charts that have Rahu in Scorpio without a primary strength for Mars, the ruler of Scorpio.

Leonardo DiCaprio has Rahu in Scorpio. Rahu is in Mars’ sign and Mercury’s nakshatra. Both Mars and Mercury are not in their own sign or their signs of exaltation. He runs Rahu mahadasha from 1982 to 2000. His biggest success, Titanic, was in 1997, during his Rahu period.

David Beckham also has Rahu in Scorpio. In his chart, Rahu is in Mars’ sign and Saturn’s nakshatra. Both Mars and Saturn are not in their own signs or their signs of exaltation. David Beckham ran his Rahu mahadasha from 1993 to 2011, covering his entire soccer career.

A couple of examples do not confirm Pulippani’s statements. However, they serve as an alternative to what others say about Rahu and Ketu’s own signs and signs of exaltation and debilitation.

Debilitation of a graha is a primary weakness for the graha. The seven visible grahas (excluding Rahu and Ketu) have agreed upon signs in which each of them are debilitated. However, grahas can also have primary strengths. How do these grahas fare when they have a primary weakness and a primary strength? We have looked at debilitation and retrogression before. For the Moon, because there is no retrogression, we consider a full Moon as a primary strength; which we can juxtapose against a debilitated Moon.

Moon is in its debilitation state in Scorpio. A full Moon, for such a chart, would have the Sun ideally in Taurus. You could also consider the Moon to be full-ish, when the Sun is in Aries or Gemini. Therefore, we are looking for charts in which Moon is in Scorpio and Sun is in Taurus (ideally), or in Aries or Gemini.

Donald Trump

In Donald Trump’s chart, Moon is in its sign of debilitation – Scorpio. Sun is in Taurus, making the Moon a full Moon. The degrees of Sun and Moon are also within one degree, making it as close to a Full Moon as possible. This chart is a good example of a debilitated Moon with a compensating strength of it being full.

To analyze Moon, let us consider the period in which Donald Trump runs his Moon mahadasha. This is from November 1981 to November 1991. How did Donald Trump do during this period? The period seems to largely focus on real estate deals. Moon in the fourth house of land and property makes sense.

In 1981 Trump purchased and renovated a building that would become Trump Plaza in New York city. In 1983 Trump completed the development of Trump Tower in Manhattan. In 1984 and 1985, Trump expanded into casinos with Harrah’s at Trump Plaza and Trump Castle in Atlantic City. Trump also acquired Mar-a-Lago in 1985. In 1986, Trump was awarded the contract to renovate Central Park’s Wollman Rink. In 1988, Trump acquired the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan and the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic city. Many of these hotels and casinos were poorly run and filed for bankruptcy between 1991 and 2009. However, these were after the Moon mahadasha and are therefore not of interest for this article.

On the whole, the ten year Moon period shows a large accumulation of properties and brings fame to Trump. He made the Forbes list of wealthy Americans multiple times during this period.

Moon in this chart does have cancellation via the Neecha Bhanga rules, specifically from Mars. However, I believe the additional fact of the Moon being full contributes to the success he sees in the ten year Moon period.

Pulippani sloka 151 gives the combination for someone living comfortably in a foreign country.

If Rahu is in the fifth house and the Sun aspects the fifth house, the native will live in a foreign country. The native will own a house, lands, and wealth in the foreign country. The native is disrespectful of his father. He/she will live for 65 years.

Example chart

Charles George Gordan was a Major-General in the British army. He spent most of his life in foreign lands fighting battles for the British. Charles is most famously known as the commander of the ever-victorious army in China. He spent time in Crimea, China, Egypt, Sudan, and many other countries. He had a tendency to disrespect authority and rules.

Charles’ chart has Rahu in the fifth house and Sun aspects the fifth house. The impact of Rahu and Ketu on the Sun can be seen in his disrespect for authority and rules. His first and tenth lord, Jupiter, forms the powerful Hamsa mahapurusha yoga. This gives him name and fame.

Pulippani sloka 131 covers a specific combination of the fifth lord and the sixth lord together in the third house. The conjunction of the fifth lord and sixth lord in a sign forms Putra Dosham.

If fifth and sixth combine in any sign it forms putra dosham. If they occupy the third house the native will have no son to perform the rites. But, if Jupiter aspects the combination, the native will have a child, provided he/she takes a dip in holy waters.

Example chart

Paul van Kempen was a dutch-german violinist and conductor. He married late and never had a child.

In Paul van Kempen’s chart, the fifth lord Moon and the sixth lord Sun are together in the third house. There is no Jupiter aspect to this combination. Fifth lord governs children in a chart. The fifth lord in Paul’s chart is with the sixth and the eight lords in a dusthana house (the third). In addition, Although Moon is in its sign of exaltation, it is a new Moon. Also, Venus, the lord of the third house is combust by being close to the Sun.

Pulippani Sloka 117 talks about the combination for no marriage.

If Jupiter and Moon occupy the seventh house, the native will not get married. Goddess Lakshmi will desert him/her. Without a life partner, he/she will be denied a son or daughter, thereby ending the family line. This is the fate of the individual.

This is only one combination and the translation reads quite harshly. The take away is that a combination of Jupiter and Moon in the seventh house could hinder the prospects of a married life. The chances of the prediction of this sloka coming true are increased if Jupiter and Moon, both, have primary weaknesses in the chart.

Example Chart

Emily Balch was an American economist, sociologist and pacifist. Balch combined an academic career at Wellesley College with a long-standing interest in social issues such as poverty, child labor, and immigration, as well as settlement work to uplift poor immigrants and reduce juvenile delinquency.

In Emily Balch’s chart Jupiter and Moon are conjunct in her seventh house. In addition, Jupiter is in its sign of debilitation and Moon is just waxing out of its new Moon phase. Therefore, Jupiter and Moon both have a primary weakness. Emily Balch lived a long life of 94 years and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. She, however, never married.

Pulippani sloka 67 gives the combinations that makes an individual go abroad and return to their native land.

If the eighth lord, twelfth lord, and Mars join in any sign, the native will go abroad. If Moon aspect this conjunction, the native will, after earning enough, come back to his/her native place and live comfortably.

Max Born

Max Born was a German-British physicist and mathematician who was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. Born in Germany, Max Born moved to the Scotland before the start of World War II. He won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics for his “fundamental research in quantum mechanics, especially in the statistical interpretation of the wave function”.

In Max Born’s chart, the eighth lord (Venus), twelfth lord (Mercury) and Mars are together in the second house. Max Born did retire and return to his home country. Although Moon is not aspecting this combination, it is very close in degrees to this combination.

Pulippani sloka 57 covers the results of the position of Moon from Jupiter.

If Moon is in the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house from Jupiter, the chart forms Sakata Yogam. An individual with this yogam, is fearful and loses his/her belongings. The individual, however, will have a good name and will be have sufficient funds financially.

If Moon is in kendra (1,4,7,10) or trikona (5,9) from Jupiter, the individual will have good education and finances.

Examples for this sloka

Other texts provide more adverse results for Sakata yogam. Pulippani’s interpretation is more balanced. This sloka does not cover when Sakata yoga is cancelled, maybe because it is not portrayed as so bad.

OJ Simpson

OJ Simpson’s chart has Moon six houses from Jupiter, forming Sakata yogam. His life is a mix of success and tragedy.

Hans Wallach

There are many charts where Moon is in Kendra or Trikona to Jupiter. Hans Wallach‘s chart is one example in which Moon and Jupiter also have primary strength. In his chart, Moon is in a trikona (fifth house) from Jupiter. Hans was a German-American experimental psychologist whose research focused on perception and learning. He has a PhD in the field and spent his life on academic research.
